Updates to HIFI data reduction with HIPE 11

This webinar will describe the most important updates in HIPE 11 for the reprocessing and post-processing of the HIFI data. We will also describe some of the scripts made available in the latest version of the plug-in HIPI. Some look-ahead of what to expect in HIPE 12 and 13 will be given, with particular focus on the new matching technique task that will be released in 12.0. Finally, we'll give some tricks on how to inspect OFF position spectra to assess possible line contamination.

Q - Ian Avruch: which flag did you uncheck to avoid the whole spectrum being thrown away?
A - David Teyssier: SUSPECT_LO. This flag is nevertheless not used for the fitBaseline and FitHifiFringe tasks, it is meant only for deconvolution. These SUSPECT_LO tables come from a-posteriori analysis of the instrument and might over-predict problems in areas that are really not problematic.
Q - Bruno Merín: does the fringe or baseline fitting as run from the flagTool apply to both H and V polarizations or just to the visualized data?
Q - David Teysser: actually it just applies to the polarization being visualized at the flagTool.

Q - Ian Avruch: is the on-off comparison documented yet?
A - David Teyssier: only the overall configurable pipeline is documented, but the use case of processing on and off scans separately is not really documented as such. That is why we do this demo, so that it is explained somewhere. But another reasons is that there are many different combinations of processes that can be done to come to different types of final products and some of them might be non relevant for some science cases and some others. THe possibility of not subtracting the off could be also applied to some other science cases. We are now writing those cookbooks and this could be included there as examples of how to look at your data in a slightly different way.
Q - Bruno Merín: so would it make sense to not to the off subtraction by default?
A - David Teyssier: you will always get brighter standing waves when you turn off the off-subtraction. For the HEB bands (6 and 7) we have noticed very similar baseline bad quality because most of the work still needs to be done by the electrical standing wave correction. The electronic standing wave correction is the primary source of error in these observations.
